Kruger Pond Forgeries

There are many known forgeries of Kruger Ponds, some of which are fairly easy to identify with close inspection. Below are examples of well-known varieties of counterfeit coins.

1894 Pond Forgeries

Several copies of the 1894 Kruger Pond exist, and many are easily recognized due to distinctive flaws:

  • A noticeable cut on President Kruger’s nose extending down to his lip.

  • A cut within the “Z” of “ZUID AFRIKAANSCHE REPUBLIEK,” often referred to as the “Z variety”.
  • This Z variety also appears on some forged 1897 Ponds.
