The above is an 1892 Double Shaft Kruger Pond. To a lay person it looks to be in very good condition, but it can be seen that President Krugers hair has been worn away. There are 1000's of these Kruger ponds in this condition.
VF35 Graded Kruger Pond
The above Kruger Pond gold coin was graded by NGC and received a Grade of VF35. This condition is below what is normally the minimum grade value for a collectable coin. As it can be seen President Kruger has more hair than the hair less none graded Kruger Pond above hence it will be worth more.
XF45 Graded Kruger Pond
The above Kruger Pond gold coin was graded by NGC and received a Grade of XF45. This is normally the minimum grade value for a collectable coin. As it can be seen President Kruger has more hair than the hair less coin above hence it will be worth more. It could have been graded lower due to the scratch on President Kruger's shoulder.
AU53 Graded Kruger Pond
The above Kruger Pond gold coin was graded by NGC and received a Grade of AU53. AU stands for Almost Uncirculated and is a very collectable coin. There is not much difference between the hair on the XF45 and the AU53 Kruger Pond but if you look at the beard you can see the AU53 is better distinguished hence the better grading.
AU55 Graded Kruger Pond
The above Kruger Pond gold coin was graded by NGC and received a Grade of AU55. Comparing the AU53 and the AU55 you can see the beard is better defined on the AU55 but the hair is better on the AU53 is better, but the deciding factor would have been the clearer jacket on the AU55.
AU58 Graded Kruger Pond
The above Kruger Pond gold coin was graded by NGC and received a Grade of AU58. Comparing the AU55 and the AU58 you can see the beard and the hair is better defined on the AU58.
MS63 Graded Kruger Pond
The above Kruger Pond gold coin was graded by NGC and received a Grade of MS63. Comparing the AU58 and the MS63 you can see the beard and the hair is much better and there are no marks on the fields.
